Welcome

Welcome to the Forster-Tuncurry Baby Boomers Bash website.. 2009 is now behind us and we're already preparing for 2010! We've left the site 'as is' for those of you who want to explore the events of 2009, plus we've added final reports on several of them for you to view and maybe add your feedback.

Although the 'Bash' is only 3 years old, we're developing into a very viable and attractive major tourism event for the region.

We welcome all suggestions and comments on 'how we did' and 'how we can do it better next time' and urge you to send your comments to us.

Press release by the Chair of the Baby Boomers Bash '09

SO LONG!  FAREWELL!  AUF WEIDERSEIN! GOODBYE!

A fitting way to end the 3rd Annual Baby Boomers Bash, as it got off to a roaring start when Carlotta opened the first event, the hilarious Sound of Music interactive singalong- under the stern eye of Mother Abbess aka Leigh Vaughan and the Company of Voices. Boos hisses and cheers resounded through the show!

During the weeks leading up to the Bash, storms played havoc with many of the garden nurseries further north who had planned to come for the Garden Show and of course lessened the number of competitors in the Flower Show at Stockland Forster. Heavy rain during the week put a dampener on the golf and the Oyster tours but cleared up for the Friday night fun time in Wharf Street.

On Saturday morning just as stall holders were setting up, down it came again, so some packed up, many of the classic cars coming from Newcastle turned back, northerners decided it was too uncertain and locals thought it would be cancelled!
But no! we saw a silver lining in the clouds and sure enough the weather cleared for a really great day.

The Breast Cancer walkers were flagged off by Carlotta, Elvis magically reappeared and the Pink walkers managed to get to Tuncurry to dance to the tune of Dancing Queens. The doggies were a credit to their owners, over 140 cars finally made it to the Motorfest, the Great Lakes Jazz Band and the Baby Boomers Band were really fantastic and of course the Bootscooters and Breakloose Rock & Rollers had every one up and dancing even the stall holders joined in!!

Sadly, Piero’s Rock & Roll record attempt was not as successful as he had hoped.
The Coast Patrol’s food fair and gourmet products were enticing and the arts creative displays drew a very appreciative audience. The old motors in action were a huge draw card for the guys but not as many men as last year took the 20 point health checks!

I believe the cycle across the lake attracted 33 starters out of a maximum of 40, which was excellent and those attending the Literacy Lunacy morning had an absolute ball, even the Muddies had visiting swimmers!

Club Forster shows drew huge audiences with sold-out shows, so it is just a shame we do not have more alternate venues to hold the outdoor attractions we had planned!

The final event the Elvis Gospel Service attracted a full congregation and the singing was heard all the way down to Strand Street!

Congratulations to all the organizers, you did a great job.

All in all, despite the rain, we succeeded in holding our 3rd Baby Boomers Bash so look out next year - you never know what the committee will come up with!

Our sincere thank you again to our sponsors and supporters and the many associations who put on events, we just hope you feel like doing it all again next year.

Stay tuned to find out the date for the 2010 BABY BOOMERS BASH

So, as Elvis would famously say “THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!”
